engagée is a collectively edited and self-published journal for political theory, activism and art, promoting emancipatory practices and philosophical interventions. The editorial process is open and collaborative and aims to connect political struggles and knowledge production. engagée also features a blog and organises events where activists, researchers and artists meet.

The aim of engagée is to foster and promote philosophical work that intends to make a constructive contribution to current political and social problems we face. It does so by going beyond conventional academic formats, avoiding a theory/practice divide and collecting different forms of contributions such as philosophical essays, literature and socially engaged art. engagée also focuses on building international networks to share experiences, foster knowledge production and cooperation with local activist groups, researchers and artist.

Open editorial board

engagée implements a conscious break with those traditional forms of hierarchical organization that are common in usual publication projects. At engagée, everybody who submits a contribution in response to the call becomes a member of the open editorial board for that issue [provided that the contribution meets the magazine’s guidelines, namely, that the contribution negotiates and critically fosters emancipatory perspectives].

The editorial board members accompany the editorial work process of at least one text contribution and proactively discuss the topic of the next issue. In case contributions exceed engagée’s 100-page format, a decision on the selection will be reached collectively
